VTG Mid Century Alfredo Barbini Murano Italy Gold Bullicante Pink Bowl/Ashtray
Vintage Mid Century Alfredo Barbini Murano Italy, Quilted Gold Bullicante, shell Pink Bowl. Beautiful pink with clear glass overlay And gold leaf inclusion bubble effect. Glass artist Alfred Barbini in Marano Italy. This was popular glass art in the mid-70s. This piece measures approximately 6 1/2 inches in diameter 3 inches in height.
Photo lighting doesn't do this art glass justice. Good condition with three teeny chips (2 bottom, 1 top) SEE PHOTOs. I can feel the tiny chips when you run your fingers across it.
Please see photos for best description and to determine condition for yourself. Measures approximately 6 in diameter and 2 deep. Alfredo Barbini was born in 1912 to a prominent glass-making family on the island of Murano, Italy.
He began working as a glassblower in 1925 at the age of 13 and was recognized as a master glassblower by 1929, at the age of 17. He worked for various glass makers until he opened his own firm in 1950, Vetreria Alfredo Barbini (Alfredo Barbini Glassworks). He received many awards during his career, and he died in 2007.
The free-form bowl is made of opaque pink glass with a clear glass overlay. It has gold leaf inclusions and a Bullicante (bubble) quilt effect. The pink color on top of the bowl in the photos is close to the actual color.The camera was unable to capture the actual pink color on the bottom of the bowl. It is a deeper pink hue and more saturated than in the photos. Camer Glass of New York was the distributor for Barbini's work in the US.
