Mid Century Murano Art Glass Dino Martens Bird Mezza Filigrana 1950 - Dark Plum & White. A beautiful glass bird with white & plum colored internal stripes by master artist, Dino Martens. Handblown in the glass style of Mezza Filigrana for Aureliano Toso. Depending upon the light levels, the stripes appear to be plum and black. The stripes seem to float inside the bird's clear glass body.
The Murano Filigrana technique uses glass rods, which are prepared beforehand, then heated in the furnace until they melt and carefully applied to a cylinder of clear glass. The glass is then blown as usual, adding the black beak and eyes later. Heavy piece weighing nearly 3 pounds.
Measures 6" tall to the top of the bird's head and about 9.5" total length from the tip of the beak to the end of the tail.
