This Glass Mandolin was hand blown and hand sculpted by Murano Glass Master Dino Rosin. Was born in Venice, Italy on May 30, 1948 and he still owns and operates Dino Rosin Studio carrying on the Rosin family tradition.
His family moved to the glassmaking island of. When he was only two months old and at the age of twelve, he left school and began work as an apprentice at the Barovier and Toso glass factory where he joined his brothers, Loredano and Mirko, at. Their factory, Artvet, in 1963.Dino continued to work at Artvet until 1975 when he moved to Loredano's newly established studio as his assistant. There Dino collaborated with his brother for almost 20 years.
Dino Rosin uses the ancient technique of "calcedonia" coloration for his glass works of art. Each sculpture has its own unique coloration. Colors range from bright yellows to deep purples, varying on the metals used, temperature and duration of the glass in the furnace. There are many styles to choose from but no two are ever identical. In Dino Rosin's works, the designs are similar, but colors will always vary. This beautiful piece came into our studio because the tuning pegs and metal bridge come off at their glued joints. The Italians use a quick/inferior adhesive that fails after 5-10 years, especially if the piece has undergone undue stress or sunshine. The experts at Bokrosh Glass Restoration removed all the old glue on the metal elements and did surface pretreatment so that these parts would stay glued for many decades. We then re-flattened both the mandolin glass areas and metal parts to fit and then re-attached them together seamlessly with our high-tech adhesive that is guaranteed for 100 years. The Italians also use an inferior stock glass polishing process, so while the metal parts were removed, we used our signature high tech polishing process to permanently brighten the glass surface which then brings out at least 20-30% more of the rich colors and brilliance that are inherent in the Calcedonia glass that is Dino Rosins unique specialty. We have provided a video of this beautiful glass sculpture so that you can see the result of our high polish when looking into the interior of this beautiful Mandolin as well as the colors in the headstock too. The Calcedonia colors Rosins used on this piece are a blend of blues, yellows and green swirls surrounding a fantastic magenta/pink center that is both translucent and shimmering in quality. This lovely piece has been completely restored and will once again retain its full value.
