Vintage MURANO MILLIEFIORI, Handblown ART GLASS, Tumblers Drinking Glasses
A set of two colorful hand blown art glass tumblers made in the milliefiori style where beads are encased and melted in the glass blowing process, creating one-of-a-kind patterns. We found these in a thrift store in Texas, and have deduced that they are more than likely of authentic Murano, Italy origin due to the bubbles in the glass, the thick sides and bottom and the slightly offset shape. Each tumbler is about 4 1/4 inches tall, 3 3/4 inches in diameter at top, and 2 inches in diameter at bottom. The sides are 1/4 inch thick and the bottom is 3/4 inches thick.
Glasses are heavy, each weighing 1 lb 5 oz. The shape is a softly sloped inverted bell, with the rim gently rolling outward. The glass is pristinely clear with no yellowing, remarkable for its age.
The outside surface is smooth but you can feel the bubbles on the inside. The bubbles get smaller and closer together at the bottom of the glass. The very bottom portion is clear with no bubbles or beads.
The colors of the beads are red, green, light blue, dark blue, yellow and white. Their random pattern, along with the slightly imperfect shape gives this set a happy, organic feel. These drinking/water glasses are completely functional and can be used daily or in a party setting. They are also works of art and can stand alone on a shelf or mantle.On a windowsill, this glassware will catch the morning sun in a riot of color. These two glasses are both in excellent condition with no cracks, chips, scratches or stains.
